This week's drawing features two parks intertwined: Washington Square and Rittenhouse Square. They are two of the five squares from William Penn’s original plan for the city and today they’re the two most accessible for hanging out. They’re connected by Locust street which makes for a nice walk between the two. Penn square has since become city hall. Logan square and Franklin square, though still nice, have been cut off from easy access by the parkway and freeway. As Philadelphia continues to grow I fear we may see the neighborhood park as a historic concept. In our neighborhood, for example, there used to be all kinds of abandoned lots that neighbors maintained, transforming them into de facto parks. These are now condos, apartments, and homes.
P.S. I asked Josh what I should draw, and he said Aunt Gladys from Weapons, which we saw the previous day.
P.P.S. This tote bag has been my go-to since 2014 when I first received it. It’s a true book bag with just enough room to hold a book and a few other things. And, I do recommend Darryl. This one’s from the library.
